The Leadership Lie most people start Monday believing...
A lot of leaders start the week believing a quiet lie.
It sounds like this:
If something goes wrong… it’s on me.
So the week begins with the leader watching everything.
Tracking everything.
Stepping in quickly when things start to wobble.
You think you’re holding people accountable.
But over time it creates a pattern.
The leader becomes the safety net for everyone’s thinking.
The one who notices the gaps.
The one who catches the mistakes.
The one who keeps things from slipping through the cracks.
And slowly, without meaning to, leadership turns into carrying the whole dance floor.
Here’s the reframe:
Your job isn’t to make sure nothing goes wrong.
Your job is to make sure the right conversations happen early enough that small issues don’t turn into big ones.
When leaders shift their attention from controlling outcomes to creating better conversations, something interesting happens.
People step up more.
The leader carries less.
And the dance starts to feel a lot lighter.
So as you head into the week, here’s something to notice:
When something feels off, pause before jumping in to fix it.
Ask yourself:
"Am I about to carry this… or invite someone else into the dance?"
Leadership gets a lot lighter when you stop dancing alone.
