I love the theatre. I don’t love when work feels like one.
I’ve always loved the theater.
Cats was the first show I ever saw.
Hamilton was the most exciting.
And this weekend, I took my son to see Sleuth.
There’s something I love about watching people fully step into a role - the emotion, the presence, the connection. It’s powerful.
What I don’t love… is when work starts to feel like a performance.
The polite conversations. The surface-level small talk. The carefully worded feedback.
Saying the “right thing” instead of the real thing.
Trying to get people to do things… like we’re moving chess pieces instead of working with actual humans.
People doing their best to behave “professional”.
But it doesn’t feel real.
That’s why I named my company Authentic Edge.
Because the leaders I love working with aren’t looking for scripts. They’re not trying to memorize the perfect thing to say.
They want to be able to have real conversations - the kind where you can say what’s actually going on and stay connected at the same time.
Where you don’t have to perform leadership.
You can be a leader.
Not perfectly.
But honestly.
That’s the work.
Not giving you the line…
Helping you learn the move.
So it’s yours.
So it fits you.
So it works in the moments that actually matter.
Because leadership shouldn’t feel like a show you’re putting on.
It should feel like something you can actually step into.
